A Letter to Mr. Taylor

It is extraordinary to be a student in a school like the BSK where excellence is the primary goal. We constantly marvel at the level quality of the BSK’s instructors and high ranking students. I don’t know many schools where students are able to train under and alongside of masters like our high ranking 5th, 6th and 7th degree sensei. I think it is a rarity.

Many years ago, my brother Joseph studied TaeKwonDo in Boulder, Colorado under Sensei Dan E. Swenson, Sabunim. Dan was a great teacher and influenced Joe in a really positive way. When my brother passed away in 2005, I wanted to let Dan know of his passing and how much Joe thought of him. When I tried to locate him in Boulder, I found out he was no longer there, but had left to run the Martial Arts program at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

During my search for Sensei Swenson, I was surprised to discover how many dojos were run by 1st and maybe 2nd degree black belts. The point I’m trying to make is many of our high-ranking students could have their own Karate dojos, but still choose to be part of Bill Taylor’s Bushido School of Karate. That is a true testament to their dedication to a way of life and the greatness of this school!

In our world of instant gratification, I am pleased to be part of a school that doesn’t believe in instant promotions and makes sure teacher quality is the most important factor.
