Special Kids Race – Running for the Kids!

New Kinder Karate Class Options (Broad St.)

Beginning January 3rd , we will be having Kinder Karate classes on Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30 – 4:15 and from 4:15 – 5:00 PM. Kinder Karate students may pick one of these times to attend on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but not both. Please do not attend back to back classes. We are doing this in order to reduce class size, so that our Kinder Karate students can receive more individual attention and also to give parents more class options! We hope this new addition to our schedule will allow us to better serve your needs.

Bad Weather Policy

Anytime you are not sure whether the Karate School will be open or not due to the weather, please simply call the school to find out. There will either be someone there to answer your questions, or there will be a very clear message on the answering machine stating that we will be closed due to ice or snowy conditions.

Mr. Taylor is interested in going to school with you! What a GREAT ‘Show and Tell’ opportunity! Bring your instructor to school for Show and Tell. Mr. Taylor has been visiting schools in the Middle Tennessee area for over 26 years talking to young people about respect, goal setting, stranger danger, and preventing bullying.

Mr. Taylor has a letter he has written that is designed for you to give to your teacher, which explains how this “Show and Tell” opportunity works. This event will help prepare you for the upcoming Federation Tournament. We will be covering “Picking up the Blitz”, and many other useful point sparring strategies. Special Kids 5K Kids Race

Sharon Perry, a marketing representative with Special Kids will be coming to speak with us in November. Special Kids is a non-profit cause which cares for children with special needs by providing Nursing services and Rehabilitative care for children ages birth to 21. As a school, we became involved with their ministry in 2011 and will continue to partner with them in 2012. Sharon will be sharing a brief outline of the sponsorship programs and how our school can get our families involved as well. They are hosting their first annual 15K/5K Family Run on March 31^st, 2012 at the new Murfreesboro Medical Clinic, and we would like to begin helping them raise awareness, funds and participants for this Spring event. The representative will be at our Broad St. location on Mon. Nov. 28^th at 7:00 PM and Tues. Nov. 29^th at 6:00 PM.

We’d like to congratulate the following students: (Broad St.) Forrest Dykes, Glenn Lannom, John Vandenberg, Ty Taylor and Chase Owens, (Business Campus Dr.) Kirsty Harmon.

These students were all successful on their 1^st degree black belt exams in late October. We are extremely proud of each of you for all your hard work and dedication of the past several years. You all represented yourselves and the Bushido School of Karate very well.

Please keep in mind that earning 1^st degree black belt is not the end of training, you have not “finished up”, rather it is a new beginning in your martial arts journey. You have all certainly reached a major long term goal you set for yourself many years ago, but there is so much more to learn in Wado-Ryu Karate. Continue to train, continue to learn, continue to improve yourself.

Parents as Coaches Class – Enroll Now!

We will have another Parents as Coaches Class at our Broad St. location on Friday, Oct. 21^st at 5:30 PM. We will also have this class at our Business Campus Dr. location on Saturday, Oct. 22^nd at 9:30 AM. This is a great way for parents to get more involved in their child’s training. We will be discussing ways you can help your child practice at home, as well as discussion about how to keep them excited and motivated. If you’ve been thinking of trying Karate for a while, but you just haven’t taken that first step into the classroom yet, this class is a great way to get your feet wet. Simply stop by the office to sign up to attend.

New Morning Cardio Kickboxing / Adult Fitness Classes

Our adult cardio kickboxing classes have been going strong and non-stop for over 15 years! They just keep getting better. We will be expanding our cardio kickboxing schedule starting in Sept. Starting Sept. 5^th , we will have cardio kickboxing classes at our Broad St. location on Mon. and Wed. at 9:00AM. These classes will be taught by Jennifer Taylor. Christmas Sale

We will be having a retail Christmas Sale at our Broad St. location on Friday, Nov. 18^th from 10:30 AM – 6:30 PM. We will also have this Sale at our Business Campus Dr. location on Saturday, Nov. 19^th from 10:00 AM –1:00 PM. All retail items will be discounted on these days only. These discounts will apply to anything in stock or ordered out of the catalog. Everything from uniforms to sparring gear to kicking shields and punching bags will be discounted. Sensei Kazutaka Ohtsuka Seminar!

Attention Orange Belts

As an orange belt, please be aware that one of the requirements to be able to test for your blue belt is that you have to be sparring in class. Thus, you need safety gear. Minimum sparring equipment consists of head, hand and foot gear along with a mouthpiece. Shin guards are also highly recommended. One of the benefits of joining the Black Belt Club is that you receive all of this safety equipment along with much, much more in your Black Belt Club package. If you have received an invitation to join the Black Belt Club, but you have not made an appointment to discuss joining with Mr. Taylor yet, please simply contact the school office. It is at least worth talking about. We look forward to hearing from you.

Karate School Closed!

Both of our locations will be closed on Friday, November 11^th and Saturday, November 12^th for Instructor Training. Any student who misses a class on one of these days, may make the class up at your convenience. You may even make the day up ahead of time if these are normal days you would attend class.
