Junior BBC Event (Broad St. & Business Campus Dr.)
Boxing/Sparring Class

This class will allow students to spar with full contact. This class would be a great way for a child to experience and learn to deal with the “adrenaline rush” experienced in real fighting or even a bullying situation. Boxing gloves and full headgear will be provided. Students participating in this class must be at least 10 years old, have parental permission and sign up in the office. Enrollment in this class is limited. Sign up in the office in order to participate. First come, first served.

Attention Orange Belts

As an orange belt, please be aware that one of the requirements to be able to test for your blue belt is that you have to be sparring in class. Thus, you need safety gear. Minimum sparring equipment consists of head, hand and foot gear along with a mouthpiece. Shin guards are also highly recommended. One of the benefits of joining the Black Belt Club is that you receive all of this safety equipment along with much, much more in your Black Belt Club package. If you have received an invitation to join the Black Belt Club, but you have not made an appointment to discuss joining with Mr. Taylor yet, please simply contact the school office. It is at least worth talking about. We look forward to hearing from you.
Monthly Tuition Payments May Be Made Online!   Bushido students or their parents may make their monthly tuition payment early, pay in advance or pay off their account in full at www.efconlinepayments.com. You would need to know your account number in order to do this. You may get your account number from the Karate school office.

Bad Weather Policy

Anytime you are not sure whether the Karate School will be open or not due to the weather, please simply call the school to find out. There will either be someone there to answer your questions, or there will be a very clear message on the answering machine stating that we will be closed due to ice or snowy conditions. Just because schools may be closed, doesn’t necessarily mean the Karate school will be closed.

New Black Belt Club Benefit

Chris and Sherry Sale, travel specialists, are able to assist the Bushido School of Karate’s Black Belt Club members, along with their friends and family, with as much input and recommendations or as little assistance as they would like in planning their vacation travel. Regardless of the amount of assistance that they want in planning their vacation, Chris and Sherry will be able to help them save money and/or get them value added amenities for use on almost all of their Resort and Cruise Vacations, including Walt Disney World, over the “discounted” online vacation/cruise websites or the Company websites. In order to receive these savings and/or value added amenities, BBC members MUST contact Chris or Sherry Sale at either (615) 295-8388, (888) 394-4178 ext 2, or send them an email at s.sale@cruiseone.com

Closed Easter Weekend

We will be closed Friday, March 25th and Saturday, March 26th for Easter Weekend.

Compete at the USEWF Tournament

The United States Eastern Wado-Ryu Federation will hold the 14th Annual C.T. Patterson Memorial Championship Tournament on Saturday, March 19th at Columbia State Community College in Columbia, TN. We encourage all BSK students to make plans to attend and compete. We have a long tradition of having the most students from a single school compete, and a long tradition of bringing home numerous trophies. Our students always do extremely well at this tournament, so please make plans to attend.
You can register several different ways. You can email or phone the USEWF Headquarters at renmei@comcast.net / (615) 365-8600. You can go online to the Federation website at www.useasternwado.com and get all the details about how to register or about the different divisions offered at the tournament. You can pay online at the federation website using your debit or credit card through PayPal. We will not be accepting your registration forms and payment for the tournament at the school. Pre-registering will help you avoid long lines trying to register at the tournament site on the day of the tournament, which is also an option that you have. Pre-registration cut off is March 15th. Please see detailed flyers about the tournament posted around the school.
Please come to the tournament and be a part of celebrating our great Federation and our awesome style of Martial Arts! This tournament is a great environment for someone who has never competed before, or if you have very little tournament experience. Even if you don’t decide to compete, please come out and support your friends and classmates as they compete.  *Candidate belt levels will compete at the rank you just moved up from. A purple candidate will compete with the blue belts, green candidates with the purple belts and brown candidates with the green belts.

Karate School Family Cookbook Charity Fundraiser

The Leadership Team members at both of our locations are collecting recipes for a charity cookbook fundraiser. They will be collecting submissions for several months, and the cookbooks will go on sale this summer. Proceeds from the sales will go to a charity partner.
All karate students and their family members are welcome to submit recipes. Recipe sheets will be available at the school, or you can send an email to shelby.c.hughes@vanderbilt.edu , please include all necessary information.
We want you to get creative! Come up with fun karate recipe names for your submissions! (Examples include “Karate Crab Cakes”, Kiba Dachi Key Lime Pie”, and “Shuto Uke Sherbert”.

Special Kid’s Race Charity Fundraiser

Once again, the Special Kids race is here!  We have a team sponsored by Bill Taylor's Bushido School of Karate, and would love to have the BSK students and their families join.  The race is March 19th.  Our team is BSK Team 2016.  We will have a booth set up at the race, so please come by and visit!  If you would like to support Special Kids through a donation, we have an impact page on the website Impactspecialkids.com.  Our fundraiser is BSK Team 2016 there as well.  We will also have donation boxes at both BSK locations - please look for them.  All funds raised will go to help kids who are unable to afford services through Special Kids.  No child is ever turned away because of inability to pay.  Every dollar makes a difference.  Please help us help the kids!!

Leadership Team Peace Corp Fundraiser/School Supply Drive Update

Last Year One of our students and former Black Belts, Ryn Duncan, had the opportunity to go to Shinshicho, Ethiopia as a Peace Corp Volunteer, working as an English teacher.
In an effort to help her with much needed school supplies, our Leadership Team spear-headed a school supply drive which ultimately collected several boxes of supplies including paper, pencils, crayons and other class room necessities.
The Leadership Team also organized a car wash, which collected $950 that was sent as a donation to the Peace Corp.
A special and heartfelt THANKS goes out to our fine Leadership Team for their excellent hard work and dedication, lead by Miss Hughes, and to all the parents and students that made this effort such an outstanding success!
Also, we’d like to give a special thanks to Ryn Duncan for volunteering her time to such a noble and worthy cause.
