Attention Orange Belts
As an orange belt, please be aware that one of the requirements to be able to test for your blue belt is that you have to be sparring in class. Thus, you need safety gear. Minimum sparring equipment consists of head, hand and foot gear along with a mouthpiece. Shin guards are also highly recommended. One of the benefits of joining the Black Belt Club is that you receive all of this safety equipment along with much, much more in your Black Belt Club package. If you have received an invitation to join the Black Belt Club, but you have not made an appointment to discuss joining with Mr. Taylor yet, please simply contact the school office. It is at least worth talking about. We look forward to hearing from you.

New Black Belt Club Benefit
Chris and Sherry Sale, travel specialists, are able to assist the Bushido School of Karate’s Black Belt Club members, along with their friends and family, with as much input and recommendations or as little assistance as they would like in planning their vacation travel. Regardless of the amount of assistance that they want in planning their vacation, Chris and Sherry will be able to help them save money and/or get them value added amenities for use on almost all of their Resort and Cruise Vacations, including Walt Disney World, over the “discounted” online vacation/cruise websites or the Company websites. In order to receive these savings and/or value added amenities, BBC members MUST contact Chris or Sherry Sale at either (615) 295-8388, (888) 394-4178 ext 2, or send them an email at s.sale@cruiseone.com

Summer Pizza Tickets
Starting June 1st, every time a Junior or Kinder Karate student attends class they will receive a ticket. This will go on until the end of July. You will need to save your tickets. Lost tickets will not be replaced. If you attend class an average of twice per week, then by the end of July you should have 16 or more tickets. Once you have at least 16 tickets, you may come sign up for a pizza party, which will be held in the Fall. This party is free and is intended to be a fun reward for keeping up your attendance during the Summer months. Again, lost tickets will not be replaced, it is your responsibility to keep track of them. It is also not fair to others for anyone to give tickets to another student, or to use tickets from a previous year.
*You must be an enrolled student in order to attend the pizza party in the Fall. This means if you are a Summer Program Student, and you do not continue with the program at the end of July, you will not be able to attend this party.

MR TAYLOR TEACHES FOR SPECIAL KIDSCAMPABILITY!

Mr Taylor will be teaching karate classes for special needs children and adults for the Special Kids Camp Ability this Summer.   Bushido School of Karate instructors and SWAT Team members are invited to help with these classes.   These classes are scheduled for Fri. June 17th and Fri. July 15th. The classes will be 30 minutes long and are scheduled for 9:30,10:00 and 10:30am both days.  These classes will be held at North Blvd Church of Christ (1112 North Rutherford Blvd.). Mr Taylor would appreciate any instructors who would like to participate in this rewarding event! You may assist in just one or all six classes!   Please let Mr Taylor know if you have questions, or if you would like to volunteer.   You may contact Mr. Taylor at bushido96@aol.com.  Thank you!
Mr. Taylor would like to thank the students who helped with the karate class held in June at Special Kids Camp Ability. Mr. Taylor and his helpers worked with special needs students on some basic karate moves. Everyone had lots of fun being involved in this very special and rewarding opportunity. Mr. Taylor was joined at this event by Elvira Deo, Ethan Moos, Bebe Faulkner and Diego Taylor. The next class is scheduled for Friday, July 15th.
“Thank all of you so much for helping with these classes. You made this event much more worthwhile for the students of Camp Ability!”

Sensei Taylor

Summer Attendance!!!
Please keep your attendance up during the Summer months. We will be having lots of special events during June and July, so keep your attendance up so you don’t miss out on anything. We will be having a Kona Ice or Ice Cream truck here, tournament, weapons classes, board breaking class, pizza party and many other special activities. Some of the activities and special classes will be announced, and some will just be a surprise. Summer is a great time to make up classes you might have missed during the school year or over the holidays. Any classes missed due to Summer vacations may be made up before or after your vacation.
*Please be aware that Broad St. junior students may attend class Tues. and Thurs. mornings at 8am and Mon. Wed. and Fri. at 12:30pm. These classes are open anytime kids are out of school.
*Business Campus Dr. junior students may attend class Mon. – Fri. from 12:00 - 1:00pm. These classes are open anytime kids are out of school.
*Kinder Karate (Broad St.) students schedule is Mon. Wed. Fri. & Sat. 11 - 11:45am
Tues. and Thurs. 3:30 - 4:15pm and 4:15 - 5:00pm & Fri. 4:00-4:45pm
*Kinder Karate (Business Campus Dr.) students schedule is Tues. Thurs. & Sat. 11:00 – 11:45am and Mon. Wed & Fri. 4:00 – 4:45pm.
*We don’t change our schedule during the Summer, these classes are open year round, and junior students may attend the earlier class times anytime they are out of school.
**Please remember that frequency of class attendance is determined by what program you are currently on. Beginner and Kinder Karate Programs are  limited to 2 attendances per week. Black Belt Club is limited to 3 attendances per week. Leadership Team is unlimited attendance. 2 or 3 attendances per week, seems to work best in the long term. Coming twice in one day and more than 3 times in one week is not recommended. Coming to back to back classes on the same day is not recommended. Trying to cram all of  your make up classes into one week is also not recommended. It is better to spread it out, so that knowledge and skills can soak in and take root, instead of just trying to fill up an attendance card. Make sure that you and your child are also practicing at home for at least 10-15 minutes, 2 times each week (maybe less for children under 6yrs). After doing this for 40 years, we often see students burn out when coming to class over 3 times a week. Our Leadership Team unlimited attendance policy is great right before an exam or while preparing for a Black Belt Exam, but should not replace practicing at home, which is vital to a students progress. 100% enthusiasm and effort are hard to muster every class if we are coming twice in one day or 5 times a week. Please enjoy the journey and try not to dampen a long- term love of the great benefits of karate by burning out too early.
