Juniors
Bushido School of Karate Leadership Team members are
asked to help with the Special Kids Race coming up Sat. April 8th.
We are a proud sponsor of the race and will have a booth set up at
the race site from 7-9am the morning of the race. We would love to
have our LT members at our booth. If you are participating in the
race, please stop by our booth before, or after the race. Please see
Mrs. Chisum at the Broad St. location, and Mr. Oceguera at the
Business Campus Dr. location for more information on how you can
help. The Bushido School of Karate is walking in honor of BSK
student, Christian Buchanan.
Monthly Tuition Payments May Be Made Online!
Bushido students or their parents may make their monthly tuition payment early, pay in advance or pay off their account in full at www.efconlinepayments.com. You would need to know your account number in order to do this. You may get your account number from the Karate school office.
Attention Orange Belts
As an orange belt, please be aware that one of the requirements to
be able to test for your blue belt is that you have to be sparring in
class. Thus, you need safety gear. Minimum sparring equipment
consists of head, hand and foot gear along with a mouthpiece. Shin
guards are also highly recommended. One of the benefits of joining
the Black Belt Club is that you receive all of this safety equipment
along with much, much more in your Black Belt Club package. If you
have received an invitation to join the Black Belt Club, but you have
not made an appointment to discuss joining with Mr. Taylor yet,
please simply contact the school office. It is at least worth talking
about. We look forward to hearing from you.
Bad Weather Policy
Anytime you are not sure whether the Karate School will be open or
not due to the weather, please simply call the school to find out.
There will either be someone there to answer your questions, or there
will be a very clear message on the answering machine stating that we
will be closed due to ice or snowy conditions. Just because schools
may be closed, doesn’t necessarily mean the Karate school will be
closed.
Special Kids Race Coming Up
It is time to sign up for the
Special Kids' Race! We have a team for karate students, ju
jitsu and kickboxing students, and their friends and family. In
other words, anybody can sign up! The run/walk will be April 8
this year so - for the 1st time - it does not conflict with the USEWF
tournament in Columbia. You can sign up at
www.specialkidsrace.org.
The name of our team is BSK Team 2017. If you are unable to
participate in the run/walk you can still make donations online or at
either karate school. We will have a booth set up the day of
the race and will hand out information about the school and let kids
do some board breaking. This is a great way for Ik Kyu Brown
Belts to get community service hours for an upcoming black belt exam
while having fun!
I would love to see everyone come
out and enjoy themselves while raising money for a wonderful
organization. Remember, Special Kids will never turn down a
child for services because of inability to pay. However, the
services they provide are very expensive. Participating in the
race and /or making a donation - no matter how small - helps offset
these costs.
Thank you in advance! Let's
go have fun and make a difference for these kids!!
Sincerely,
Leslie Shearon

Compete at the USEWF Tournament
The United States Eastern Wado-Ryu Federation will
hold the 15th Annual C.T. Patterson Memorial Championship
Tournament on Saturday, March 11th at Columbia State
Community College in Columbia, TN. We encourage all BSK students to
make plans to attend and compete. We have a long tradition of having
the most students from a single school compete, and a long tradition
of bringing home numerous trophies. Our students always do extremely
well at this tournament, so please make plans to attend.
You can register several different ways. You can email or phone the
USEWF Headquarters at renmei@comcast.net
/ (615) 365-8600. You can go online to the Federation website at
www.useasternwado.com
and get all the details about how to register or about the different
divisions offered at the tournament. You can pay online at the
federation website using your debit or credit card through PayPal. We
will not be accepting your registration forms and payment for the
tournament at the school. Pre-registering will help you avoid long
lines trying to register at the tournament site on the day of the
tournament, which is also an option that you have. Pre-registration
cut off is March 6th. Please see detailed flyers about the
tournament posted around the school.
Please come to the tournament and be a part of celebrating our great
Federation and our awesome style of Martial Arts! This tournament is
a great environment for someone who has never competed before, or if
you have very little tournament experience. Even if you don’t
decide to compete, please come out and support your friends and
classmates as they compete.
*Candidate belt levels will compete at the rank you just moved up
from. A purple candidate will compete with the blue belts, green
candidates with the purple belts and brown candidates with the green
belts. Candidate level students are encouraged to wear their last
solid colored belt, as to avoid confusion as to which division you
belong in.
Support Your Fellow Students and Parents!
If you are a parent or adult
student of the Bushido School of Karate, and own your own business,
we would like to help you reach more potential clients! We would
like to start listing contact information for the owners of
businesses affiliated with BSK. In this manner, students and parents
would be able to find a business owner they have at least one thing
in common with, our school! If you would like to have your business
listed in our newsletter, please email your name, the name of your
business and all pertinant contact information to bushido96@aol.com.
We will list these businesses in our monthly newsletter starting
asap, if there is sufficient interest. This system would allow your
business to contact over 400 families each month. We may also
hi-light one of these businesses each month is there is sufficient
interest.
Attention Parents and Adult Students
In order to serve you better, we have decided to
create a Bill Taylor’s Bushido School of Karate Facebook group for
parents and students to get updates on classes, cancellations and
important information more quickly. We will continue to post to our
Facebook Page @BushidoKarate; if you haven’t already – please
“LIKE” our page. There is no obligation to Opt-In to this Group
Page and you may leave it at any time. If you would like to Opt-In to
this group page and receive instant updates from Bill Taylor’s
Bushido School of Karate, please stop by the office and fill out a
form, or simply email us your email address associated with your
Facebook to bushido96@aol.com
.
Parents as Coaches Class!
We will be holding a “Parents as Coaches” class on
Friday, March 17th , from 5:30 – 6:30pm at our Broad St.
location. All parents of junior class and kinder karate students are
welcome to attend. We will be covering a lot of subjects you may have
questions about, and we will be showing you how you can help your
child at home to help insure their continued success in our program.
Who knows, you may be inspired to start training as well! We hope to
see you there. Your child DOES NOT attend this class with you.
Meet and Greet with Christian Buchanan
This year, the students,
parents and friends of the Bushido School of Karate will be walking
and running in the Special Kids Race, April 8th in honor
of our student Chrisitian Buchanan. Christian is a gold stripe belt
kinder karate student at our Broad St. location. We are going to
have a “Meet and Greet' for Christian Friday Mar. 17th
at 5:30pm at the Broad St. school. Everyone is invited to come and
meet this very special student and his family. Christian's mom will
read a book written about Christian to our younger students and
refreshments will be served. What a great opportunity for children
to learn about God's plan for special children!! Please try and
attend this very special event as we gear up to help support Special
Kids at their April 8th race!
